Abstract
The name of my project is Super Soaker . I will be experimenting to determine which materials are most absorbent. I have chosen five materials you might find around your house, including some materials you probably wouldn't normally use to soak up a spill. I picked this project because I was interested in fibres in materials and I wanted to know why some materials absorbed more than others. I am using the materials nylon, cotton, Kleenex, felt and paper towel. I chose these materials because I wanted to see if the more uncommon materials would be more absorbent. My hypothesis is that the paper towels will be most absorbent because they're made to absorb liquids.
First I carefully put half a cup of water into a measuring cup and poured it into a clear plastic cup. I had five cups and had done the same method by pouring half a cup of water into each. Then I took a blue marker and marked exactly where the water level was. I took the materials and cut them each into pieces and weighed them to make sure they were each five grams. Then I labelled each cup with the name of the material and one by one dipped each material into the water and counted to ten. Once the ten seconds were over I took out the water and put them in a bowl. Then I took a red marker and marked down exactly where the liquid level was now. I repeated the procedure with every material, and ran the test three times on each material to see if there was a consistency in my results.
