Abstract


The purpose of this science fair project is to construct a working water wheel using common household objects. Using this water wheel I will demonstrate Newton's second law of motion by placing the water wheel under a constant flow of water at two different heights. The water flowing from a greater height will cause the water wheel to spin at a faster speed, showing that "force equals energy times motion". I will discuss how this applies to hydroelectric dams and their construction/placement. I will fit the water wheel with a homemade generator and demonstrate how a hydroelectric dam works by producing enough electricity with the water wheel to light a light bulb.
